As of the 30th November 2017, if you are a Vodafone New Zealand customer and use their email service, then it’s time to say goodbye. A batch of common email addresses, including Vodafone, ClearNet and Paradise, will be switched off at the end of November when Vodafone stops offering email services.
Having first launched their email service in the 1990s, there have more recently been complaints from a large number of customers regarding problems with spam, as well as delays in emails being received by recipients.
Please note, if you are using an email with any of the following address suffixes, you will be affected by this shutdown, and you need to act before the 30th November:
- clear.net.nz
- es.co.nz
- ihug.co.nz
- paradise.net.nz
- pcconnect.co.nz
- quik.co.nz
- vodafone.co.nz
- vodafone.net.nz
- wave.co.nz
Choose A New Email Service
There are many decent, free email services out there, so it’s worth maybe talking to friends and family about what they use and what they like or dislike about their service of choice. Two of the most popular offerings are Gmail (provided by Google) and Outlook (provided by Microsoft).
Have a look online for reviews or videos discussing the various email services and what they offer, and if you like the look of them. Does a particular service have a good look and feel? Is there any cost involved? If you do some research, do your findings suggest a service that you like the look of, will do all the basics you want it to?
To Do: Set Up Your New Email Account, Auto-forward Emails, Import Contacts And Emails
Setting up a new email account is slightly different for every service, but as a rule the setup is generally fairly standard (choose an address, create a password and add in a few personal details). Just follow the step-by-step process, taking note of your newly chosen email address, and be conscious of creating a secure password (make sure it’s different from your current one). Support is never far away though, both online and over the phone, so if you have any problems, chances are someone else has had the same problem.
The next step is setting up auto-forwarding (so that any emails that come to your current Vodafone email address after 30th November are automatically sent to your new email address). By now you should have received an email from Vodafone with a link to follow that will set up the email forwarding automatically.
If you currently access your email via a website (webmail) then you might want to download any emails you want to keep. You’ll also need to download any contacts from your current email address book. There are instructions on the Vodafone website with regards to downloading emails from Vodafone services, so be sure to check it out.
If, for your new email service, you choose either Gmail or Outlook, you’ll be able to import emails from your Vodafone account into the new email account (other services do offer that functionality too).
Once you’re all set up, be sure to tell friends, family and any other contacts about your new email address. Remember to also update any online services with your new email address, and you’ll be good to go.
